FPP Psycho-Social Well-Being
Community participation can be vital in helping to shift the ways in which communities deal with their situation. Community leadership and adults in general are essential participants in the process of bringing community perspectives to the multifaceted process that involves long term behavior change. They are experts in the community’s culture and priorities. They understand the community’s resources and constraints. Improved levels of participation enable communities to find solutions for their own problems through interactive ways of decision making.
Overall Objective: The main objective on Community Participation is to establish and strengthen a partner relationship with the community, which will be critical on responding effectively to the community’s diverse needs. The process itself will help the community to take ownership of both the problem and the solutions. In so doing, community mobilization will also improve program success and sustainability.
The specific community participation objectives as part of the FPP are:
- Community will develop a more altruistic and solidarity attitude
- Community leadership will be better organized
- Community will develop more unity
- New and committed leadership will flourish
- Community leadership will intervene when a crisis or urgent situation happen
- Community capacity to manage conflicts will increase
- Community will promote and participate more actively in community projects
Family Preservation Program’s activities are culturally appropriate, supporting positive community traditions and knowledge, respecting pre-existing communication channels, and delivering messages using participatory teaching strategies that foster peoples’ contribution and commitment.
The socio-cultural approach utilized by CFL offers a framework for a more participatory and supportive community environment, enhancing individuals and family’s capacity to understand and deal with poverty and its consequences within the context of their own socio-cultural references and resources.
