The Rogerio Award honors Rogerio Belchior, a young native Mozambican, who was one of the first volunteers for Care for Life and who was vital to helping Care for Life get established in Mozambique. As an orphan with many hardships, his enthusiastic outlook, determination to overcome obstacles, and a desire to help others inspired all who knew him. But as so often the case with extraordinary people, Rogerio passed away in 2003 from HIV/AIDS, which he contracted as a child. His love of life and of people and his unselfish desire and untiring efforts to make life better for others is a spirit that we want to endure and pass on. Therefore, the Rogerio Award will be given out annually to a volunteer who shares this same spirit and who inspires others.

Ben Harper, a Care for Life volunteer and HELP program alumni, served Care for Life with all his heart. He loved Mozambique and cherished his experiences. Ben said while serving in Mozambique “It was the happiest I have ever been”. Ben passed away in 2009. In his memory “The Ben Harper Volunteer Scholarship” will be awarded to a potential volunteer that shows a deep desire to serve, but lacks the financial ability to pay the HELP team costs to serve in Mozambique. Applications must be submitted by Dec 30th, for the next years program.
