Community Health
The concept of care groups is not new to Mozambique and has been successfully implemented in many countries throughout Africa. The idea is to enlist community members to help awaken their society to healthier living practices and in caring for the sick. The model outreach program Care for Life uses is designed to reach a large population while maintaining cost-efficiency, sustainability and concentrated support to volunteers and recipients.
Creating a network of volunteers to reach many households is an ideal solution for logistical and monetary reasons. The volunteers are supported by CFL supervisors and receive encouragement from one another. CFL volunteers and supervisors dramatically influence the health practices of these households. Behavior change becomes more than an individual decision - it becomes a social movement involving many in the community as these volunteers and families work together.
