Care for Life’s amazing Board of Directors is a critical component of our success in changing people’s lives in Mozambique, Africa. We have a both long-time supporters and new board members, which creates the perfect combination of experience, enthusiasm and new ideas.

BOARD MEMBERS

Blair J. Packard, Co-Founder
Blair J. Packard is the co-founder of Care for Life along with his wife Cindy. He received his education at Brigham Young University with a Masters Degree at Duke University. He is a licensed physical therapist and co-owner of East Valley Physical Therapy in Mesa, Arizona. His volunteer professional service has included President of the Arizona Physical Therapy Association, Board of Directors of the American Physical Therapy Association, and President of the U.S. Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. He also served a humanitarian mission in Mozambique in 2005 and served as the Mission President for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mozambique and Angola from 2006-2009.

Linda Harper, President
Linda Harper, President of Care for Life, began volunteering with Care for Life shortly after it was organized. During her time with Care for Life she has held a number of responsibilities including Board Member, Advisory Board Member, Volunteer Coordinator, and U.S. Operations Director. Over the past 10 years Linda has spent considerable time in Mozambique working in both the villages and with the Care for Life staff. Linda is a successful businesswoman; she and her husband Todd own a remodeling company in Gilbert, Arizona. They are the parents of five sons.

Steve Samuelian, Chairman
Stephen E. Samuelian is a founding partner of Life Generations Healthcare as well as one of four founding partners of Covenant Care Inc. and has served as President and CEO of three companies in the business of Real Estate Development and Construction (Sacon Constructors Inc., Medcon Inc., and Emerald Development Inc.). Currently, Mr. Samuelian serves on several Boards—as the Chairman of The Perfect Moment Foundation, the Chairman of Care for Life, and on the Board of Directors for Rising Star Outreach, which assists in eliminating the stigma of those affected by leprosy in India. Married to Susan D. Samuelian for 30 years, Steve is the father of four children and three grand children and resides in Laguna Beach, California.

Curtis Christensen, Secretary/Treasurer
Curtis Christensen graduated from Arizona State University with his degree in accounting. He is currently a CPA and CFO of an agriculture and real estate development company. Curtis and his wife are the parents of four children.

S. Joseph Anderson
S. Joseph Andersen graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Philosophy/Economics, with a minor in Scandinavian studies. His career has stretched from Toys R Us to ShopKo to Super Target and to Sam’s Club. Today he is the owner of multiple companies spreading across Utah, Missouri, California, Wisconsin, Iceland and Brazil. His largest entity, Progrexion Holdings, is a software development and marketing company. S. Joseph Andersen serves on four foundation boards, is a trustee of a charitable organization with a focus on service, education and the arts, and joined Care for Life’s Board of Directors in 2011. He is married and the father of four sons. His personal interests are first and foremost his family, followed by sailing, developing a business, and being mentored or mentoring.

Samo Goncalves
Samo Goncalves joined Care for Life in 2010. He is the National Director of Security in the Criminal Control and Security Measures in Mozambique and has been instrumental in supporting Care for Life with the Mozambican government. During his spare time Samo consults on legal issues. He and his wife Carolina Azarias live in Maputo with their seven children.

DIRECTORS

Ruthanne Van Wagoner, Executive Administrative Assistant
Ruthanne Van Wagoner has worked with Care for Life since 2003 in areas ranging from educational materials to program monitoring and data. She is a Utah State graduate, a wife, and a mother of three boys.

Randall Voss, Mozambique Operations Director
Randall Voss has been working with several non-profit humanitarian organizations since the 1970′s. He feels privileged to be one of the early members that helped start Care for Life. His favorite quote that resembles best his vision for the work he is doing with Care for Life is “Our vision begins to change when we see the poor not as empty bottles to be filled up, but as candles to be lit.”  – Robert H. Schaffer

João Bueno, Program Development Director
João Bueno has been with Care for Life since 2005 and has been instrumental in the design, development, and implementation of the Family Preservation Program from inception to its current state. João Bueno has a Masters in Public Administration from BYU Marriott School of Management with a minor in International Development and Nonprofit Management. João is originally from Belo Horizonte, Brazil and spends this time between the United States and Mozambique.

Anita Joos Eyre, PR/Marketing Director
Anita Joos Eyre was born and raised in Switzerland and is currently residing in New York City with her husband Talmadge. Anita obtained her undergraduate degree in Ancient Studies from Brigham Young University. After graduation she moved to New York City where she entered the fashion/advertising industry, working for Prada, Burberry and most recently for Donna Karan as the Global Media Director. In 2009 she and her husband, Talmadge, embarked on a nine month travel and humanitarian expedition to Africa and India, spending extensive time at Care for Life in Mozambique. She is currently overseeing all marketing aspects for Care for Life.

Julie Peterson, Volunteer Director
Julie Peterson is responsible for the Care for Life Volunteer program. Julie and her husband Howard have made several trips to Mozambique. Julie has four children, all of whom have volunteered with Care for Life.

ADVISORY BOARD MEMBERS

Cindy Packard, Co-Founder
Cindy Packard is the co-founder of Care for Life along with her husband Blair. She is a licensed midwife with a private practice in Gilbert, Arizona. Cindy and Blair have seven children and 24 grandchildren. She has spent an extensive amount of time working in Mozambique, including a humanitarian mission in 2005 and a three year mission in Mozambique and Angola for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with her husband from 2006-2009.

Daryl Hobson
Daryl Hobson has spent the majority of his business life in health care administration. He recently retired from Deseret Mutual Benefit Administrators in Salt Lake City, as the Assistant VP/Manager of welfare benefits. He helped install the first electronic provider payment system in Utah; served as Privacy and Government Liaison Officer; was a member and president-elect of the Utah Health Insurance Association; was responsible for implementing the first IPA model HMO in Utah and directed all its program functions. His volunteer service includes serving for several years on the board of Community Nursing Services, including two years as Chairman, and as the assistant to the director of Risk Management of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He has also served as Mission President for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Cape Verde Praia Mission, West Africa, and is currently a volunteer Executive Director of Ashby Foundation in Cape Verde. Following this service, he and his wife Ann fulfilled a short-term humanitarian mission in Mozambique, working with Care for Life. Daryl is an avid hiker of the slot canyons of southern Utah, speaks Portuguese, enjoys traveling, reading, and working with the youth in his congregation.

Bradley McBride
Bradley McBride has been involved with Care for Life since 2003. He has served as a member of the operating committee, Board of Directors, and was President from 2006-2009. During that time Bradley oversaw the development and rapid expansion of the Family Preservation Program in Mozambique. Two of the highlights of this period were the opportunity to present the Family Preservation Program to the International Society of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and at the Conference on Economic Self-Reliance at BYU. Bradley received a degree in political science from Brigham Young University. Since 1990 he has owned and operated an advertising agency in Mesa, Arizona. He and his wife Chrissie reside in Gilbert, Arizona, and are the proud parents of five children, one of whom, Emily, participated twice as a summer team member for Care for Life in Mozambique.

Talmadge Eyre
Talmadge Eyre grew up in Salt Lake City and obtained his undergraduate degree in Communications from Weber State University. Following his graduation Talmadge worked for Black and Decker in Southern California, followed by Maxis in New York City. In 2009 he and his wife Anita embarked on a nine month travel and humanitarian expedition to Africa and India, spending extensive time at Care for Life in Mozambique. Talmadge is currently working for Imagine Learning, a software company teaching children English as a Second Language. Talmadge and Anita reside in New York City.

Paul English
Paul English is a physician and advisor to the health department of Care for Life. He and his wife Margie have visited Mozambique numerous times.

Curtis Keller
Curtis Keller is an attorney and gives legal counsel to Care for Life. He and his family reside in Gilbert, AZ.

Jason Coverston
Jason Coverston is Care for Life’s IT and Communications specialist. He and his wife Gaylee live in Utah.

Joan Dixon
Joan Dixon has a doctorate in International Development Education with expertise in community-based, non-formal education, adult literacy, and life skills education. She has extensive international experience in Indonesia, Nigeria, Mali, Gambia, Nepal, Thailand, and Hong Kong. Dixon is an adjunct faculty member at the BYU Marriott School and serves as the practitioner network director for the BYU Economic Self-Reliance Center. She joined Care for Life in 2011.

Warner Woodworth
Warner Woodworth is a professor of organizational behavior at Brigham Young University where he teaches Third World Development, Micro-credit, and Social Entrepreneurship. He is married to Kaye Colvin Woodworth and they have ten children. Author of 10 books and over 180 articles he has been engaged in empowering the poor for two decades. He has helped found and/or served on the boards of numerous nongovernmental organizations including Enterprise Mentors International, Ouelessebougou-Utah Alliance, Unitus and HELP International, among others. He is co-author of Small Really is Beautiful (1997) and Working Toward Zion (1999). Although he has been involved with Care for Life over the last 5 years, he officially joined Care for Life as an Advisory Board member in 2011.
